Primaris Captain and Lieutenant completed. I've slowed to a snail's pace but real life gets in the way sometimes. Plus I wanted to get more detail on our glorious leader(s) because these were the showpiece models. Going back to finish the last intercessor squad will be almost enjoyable in comparison.

The Captain was the biggest pain in the arse. I'd completely assembled him with plastic glue which meant the cloak was always going to be annoying. I eventually managed to snap him in half at the knees without damaging the model (much to my relief). This meant it was easier to get at the cloak but painting the folds around the ammunition belt was still going to be rough.
Watch my halo, shorty! |
I spent ages just trying to figure out what colours to use. This paint scheme was an accident really and if I hadn't stumbled over that pot of Iyanden Darksun then I never would have figured out that it goes well with Thunderhawk Blue. So actually having to think about a third and fourth colour which works with the other two was hard (although red was a fairly obvious choice).
I'm not sure whether I like the Captain better, or the Lieutenant. |
I cheated in the end and just left inside of the cloak au naturel. (i.e. primer white). I painted the corner gold and put a decal down the side so I might have gotten away with it (The Emperor's New Clothes?). I was always shite at painting cloaks anyway and never got much practice with Tyranids. In the end, I decided to not bother shading the back of the cloak either and just left it basecoated. Hard deadlines always make you more inventive. Or Lazy. Take your pick.
Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die. |
These two were quite tortuous to paint so I allowed myself to be distracted a lot in order to avoid chucking the bloody things across the garage. I turned to the vehicles for a bit of light relief. The Stormraven is pretty much done apart from the base. I was going to switch the daemon out for a few genestealers crawling over the fuselage but there just isn't time before the tournament so I'll have to go back to that one at a later date.
Yep. I like the Lieutenant better |
I've finished converting the Rhino and Thunderfire Cannon into a Whirlwind. The cowling is glued lightly so I should be able pull it off and use it as the original model if the mood takes me. I've also built and basecoated the Predator Annihilator and started doing the camo.
Probably not going to get another post in before next weekend which is the Tournament. Oh well, if the army isn't finished, its not the end of the world.
Mate they look great, I look forward to seeing them in person at CTA
ReplyDeleteCheers Wryth. We're not likely to play each other since we aren't matched in the first round :D Thank goodness I'm not playing Tyranids or Maugan Ra would have single handedly beaten me.
DeleteLooking excellent. And yeah, it's a tough call between the two, but I also think the Lt came out just a little bit better.
ReplyDeleteYeah I think its the posing. The Lt. just looks cooler. Gravis Armour makes the captain look a bit like Mr. Stay Puft. Thanks WestRider.
DeleteThese are looking really damn effective! The more I see of the force, the more I am loving it!
ReplyDeleteStrength and honour!
DeleteI really Love this scheme, it just pops in all the right places. Would you mind sharing a run down of how you achieve your blue grey?
ReplyDeleteThanks, no problem. Primed with Mechanicus Standard Grey (spray), 'Wet' brushed Thunderhawk Blue. Recess shade of Nuln Oil. Another Wet brush Thunderhawk Blue. Edge Highlight Fenrisian Grey. See my post http://monkeychuka.blogspot.co.nz/2017/06/strength-in-purity.html
DeleteSorry, I meant base coated Mechanicus Standard Grey. They were primed white
