Time to take stock of my swelling tide of grey plastic. There's quite a few other things I want to buy: Nightvault, Spiteclaw's Swarm, The Eyes of the Nine, Anacharis Scoria etc. etc. but I really need to do something with all the crap I've already bought.
I split a box of Renegade with someone at work (I got the shitty Imp. knight but all of the scenery and he got the Warden upgrade arms. Fair trade.) Together with my Kill Team and Forgebane sets I realised that I have most of an Ad Mech army.
So I'm not going to buy anything else until I've at least put it together. Given that I want to convert a large part of it, this is going to take some time. The one exception to this ban is Blackstone Fortress. If GW release that game this year then I will drop everything and open my wallet wider than the Cicatrix Maledictum.
I wanted to start small so I built one Skitarii Ranger and became bored immediately. I skipped the rest of the army and moved straight on to the knight. Unfortunately I didn't like the pose at all so I started messing about with increasingly heretical ideas. This particular cult of the Omnissiah are obviously the ones who built the Mad Cat for the Red Scorpions. Little did the Astartes know when they commissioned this project from their local forgeworld was that it was deeply mired in heresy. The Madcat was just a proof of concept for the hellforged abominations that they wished to create. Its way past time I fell to Chaos.
Looking good so far! I totally understand ditching basic Troops to work on a Knight instead, since I did exactly the same thing with The Vindication of the Devine in my Slaanesh Army. The Knight kit is so awesome. So much potential for all sorts of different conversions and uses. I particularly like how you modified the head and neck here. Makes it much creepier and gives it much more of a sense of motion and a predatory feel.
ReplyDeleteThanks, its just posed at the moment with blu-tac but I want him to look hunched and menacing (and birdlike) so I'm glad you noticed. I didn't know your Renegade Knight had a name. I thought you just called it 'The Big Bad'. It was definitely an inspiration for this fella as you will see hopefully in further updates.
DeleteThanks! Inspiration is the sincerest form of flattery.
DeleteHouse Devine was the first Knight House to turn to Chaos (specifically Slaanesh), and, for many years, they were canonically the only one. So I figured when I was doing a Knight for my Slaanesh Army, I should tie into that somehow.
I don't remember you having this same excellent work ethic in the office :-)
ReplyDeleteMaybe you never gave me the right inspiration or motivation!
DeleteI gave up managing people in 2008. So few made me look good. BTW I have a bunch of modernish plastic IG bitz that might be good for your scenic bases if you are interested. I'm never going to use them.
DeleteOooh! Yes please! Maybe we can do a swap? I bought a stupid amount of Mantic Zombies that I'm never going to use but maybe you can give them a good home? I've built/converted them all I'm afraid.
DeleteDo you have my mobile number?
Deleteerm no. Sent you a message on Facebook
DeleteAh yeah - Evil Knight! Are you going to try and finish him for Dreadtober?
ReplyDeleteI didn't think you could put knights in Dreadtober? They are fine with Carnifexes tho so I suppose it doesn't matter. There's no way in hell that this is going to be painted in 2 weeks though. Probably wont even be finished since there is much foul and unholy converting to be done. Plus I'm in lazy mode after the last tournament.
DeleteYeah, people do Knights for Dreadtober. I'm doing an Armiger, but I know there are other people doing full on Questoris Knights.
DeleteI've got 2 Knights in for Dreadtober with no expectations of completing them. If they're based and primed I'll be happy.
DeleteMeanwhile the legs on yours are amazing!
I suppose I could submit a late entry? However, all work on the beast has ground to a halt at the moment as I currently think he looks like a plucked chicken. Motivation is a funny thing. I'm glad you like the legs tho, cheers!
DeleteHoly moly! That is so, so cool!
ReplyDeleteKnights are totally cool for dreadtober - If it's a big stompy monstrosity, it counts! :D
Thanks Mordian. I've got a ton of converting to do before it sees a coat of paint however. Not even started greenstuffing yet.
DeleteLove the oh so simple but effective use of sprues for bracing till (presumably) the glue dries.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cheef, he's mostly held together with blu-tac at the moment. I probably spend too much time posing models and need a lot of scaffolding sometimes.
